Oman’s Embassy in Japan issues safety advisory following tsunami warning

The Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman in Tokyo has issued an advisory to citizens residing in or visiting Japan, following tsunami warnings triggered by a powerful earthquake near Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula.

MUSCAT – In an official statement, the embassy urged all citizens to strictly follow the instructions issued by local Japanese authorities and to avoid designated evacuation areas for their safety.


The advisory comes after the Japan Meteorological Agency issued a tsunami warning on Wednesday for the Pacific coast, following a magnitude 8.7 earthquake off Kamchatka. According to the agency, tsunami waves of up to 3 meters may impact areas including Hokkaido in the north and the Ogasawara Islands in the south.


“Accordingly, the embassy urges all citizens to adhere to the instructions issued by the relevant local authorities and stay away from evacuation areas. The embassy can be reached at all times by phone at 0804 332 8884. We wish everyone safety,” stated the Embassy announcement.
