NAIROBI : His Excellency Dr. Al Amri, who also serves as President of the upcoming Seventh Session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA), led Oman’s delegation to the landmark conference, which coincided with the 40th anniversary of AMCEN—an institution that has played a key role in shaping Africa’s environmental agenda since its establishment in 1985.



In his keynote address, HE Dr. Al Amri praised AMCEN’s historic achievements in sustainable development, biodiversity protection, pollution control, and climate action, emphasizing its role in uniting Africa’s environmental voice on the global stage. He also highlighted the importance of AMCEN’s partnership with UNEA, calling it a successful model of regional-global collaboration that drives both the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals and Africa’s Agenda 2063.
Looking ahead, HE Dr. Al Amri laid out an ambitious vision for enhancing AMCEN’s capabilities in the coming decades. This includes advancing science-based policymaking, sustainable climate financing, integration of digital technologies and AI for environmental monitoring, and promoting just and green economic transitions across the continent.

On the sidelines of the conference, Oman’s delegation engaged in several key meetings. These included discussions with representatives of the Group of 77 and China, the European Union, and the Russian Federation, all focused on preparing for the Seventh Session of the United Nations Environment Assembly. HE Dr. Al Amri also met with the European Commissioner for Environment and Circular Economy and Dr. Yasmine Fouad, Executive Secretary of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification, to explore avenues for broader cooperation.
Additionally, a joint meeting with several African environment ministers addressed progress on the upcoming UNEA session and gathered feedback on the Ministerial Declaration.
