MUSCAT – “Proper handling of vehicle fires is one of the fundamental pillars of prevention, requiring full awareness of the procedures to be taken from the very first moment of the incident,” states the Authority.
Vehicle fires can pose significant risks, especially during summer months when temperatures are higher. The CDAA highlights that quick and correct actions by drivers can make a substantial difference in mitigating damage and ensuring safety.
Here is what CDAA wants motorists to follow if their vehicle catches fire:

  • Slow down, turn on the hazard lights, then park the vehicle far away and in a safe place.
  • Turn off the engine and leave the vehicle immediately.
  • Call emergency numbers 9999 or 24343666 to report the incident.
  • Try to put out the fire using an extinguisher without endangering yourself or others.
  • If the flames increase, move away from the vehicle to a safe area until the fire brigades arrive.
  • Alert other road users to avoid approaching the burning vehicle.
