His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik issued a special royal pardon during the holy month of Ramadan, which now takes the total tally to over 7,000 in the last five years.

Muscat: Including both Omani citizens and foreign nationals convicted in various cases, the recent royal pardon comes in conjunction with the upcoming celebration of Eid al-Fitr 1446 AH and reflects His Majesty’s enduring commitment to humanitarian values and the well-being of families affected by incarceration.

Since ascending to the throne, His Majesty’s royal pardons have extended to 7,133 prisoners between 2020 and March 29, 2025, offering a second chance to thousands in the spirit of tolerance, reform, and reconciliation.

Timeline of pardons under His Majesty (2020–2025)

2020: 1,704 inmates pardoned, including many during Eid and National Day.

2021: 1,670 pardoned across five royal decrees.

2022: 1,341 pardoned in a continued show of benevolence.

2023: 864 inmates received clemency through five royal pardons.

2024: 879 inmates were pardoned across various occasions, including Eid and the anniversary of His Majesty’s rule.

2025: 882 inmates have been pardoned, including the most recent 577 on March 29.

The royal pardons are often timed with significant religious and national events, including Eid al-Fitr, Eid al-Adha, the Prophet’s birthday, Oman’s National Day, and the anniversary of His Majesty’s accession to power.
