Muscat – Covering 500 hectares, the OBG is dedicated to showcasing Oman’s rich biodiversity and native flora, and it aims to play a key role in the country’s conservation efforts.
The garden will feature 1,450 species of native plants, displayed in biomes that replicate the diverse natural habitats of Oman, including the Dhofar and Hajar mountains, wadis, deserts, and salt flats.
The garden’s design incorporates eco-friendly features, including triple-layered glass exteriors to reduce heat and energy use, and natural ventilation to decrease reliance on air conditioning. The site, chosen for its proximity to Muscat and its unique geological features, is just 35 km from Muscat International Airport.
In addition to its environmental focus, the OBG will offer a range of amenities, including research facilities, interactive exhibits, event spaces, and Oman’s first-ever cable car. The cable car will provide aerial views of the garden’s biomes and ecosystems. The OBG’s sustainable design has earned it a LEED Platinum certification, with a solar power station featuring 11,000 solar panels that will generate 20,000 kWh of energy.

The garden’s features will also include a seed bank, herbarium, laboratories, and a library, supporting both research and educational outreach on Oman’s biodiversity and conservation.
Once completed, the Oman Botanic Garden is set to be a key destination for both domestic and international visitors, offering a unique blend of environmental education, leisure, and cutting-edge sustainability practices.
