Muscat – A specialized medical team from the departments of Ear, Nose and Throat, Head and Neck Surgery, and Oral, Maxillofacial and Facial Surgery performed these complex operations simultaneously.
The surgeries involved the removal of advanced head and neck tumours, both cancerous and benign, using free flap techniques. These are very precise and advanced operations that take from 14 to 18 continuous hours.
Dr. Faisal bin Khamis Al Kalbani, Consultant Otorhinolaryngologist and Head and Neck Surgeon at Al Nahda Hospital, explained that extensive preparation is required for such surgeries, involving a team of specialists and various diagnostic tests. Restoration operations are crucial to compensate for the shape and function of the removed part, improving the patient’s health and recovery.

He emphasized the importance of restoration operations to maintain both the shape and function of affected areas, significantly impacting patient health and recovery. Historically, patients requiring such advanced care would have had to travel abroad for treatment, often facing lengthy delays.
