Muscat: Led by Dr Hatem bin Lutfi Al Lawati, a senior consultant physician in interventional and structural cardiology, and Dr Khaled bin Humaid Al Saeedi, a consultant physician in the same field, the medical team performed a sophisticated surgery utilizing a temporary pump to support the left ventricle and stimulate coronary and general blood circulation. The innovative procedure involved catheterically implanting the pump from the femoral artery, showcasing the latest in medical technology.

The patient presented with advanced atrophy in the left ventricle’s pumping efficiency, dangerous pulmonary vascular resistance, and blockages in major coronary arteries due to dense fatty and calcified deposits. Traditional surgical options were risky due to the disease’s advanced stages.

During the two-hour surgery, the team successfully implanted the iVAC 2L booster pump in the left ventricle, addressed calcifications in the main coronary artery, and inserted modern mesh stents. Remarkably, the patient remained stable throughout the procedure and post-catheterization period, being discharged the following day.

This successful catheter operation represents a breakthrough in treating atherosclerosis cases with atrophy or severe morbidity due to ischemia. It opens new avenues for treating complex heart diseases previously deemed untreatable through conventional methods.
