MUSCAT: Oman’s Ministry of Social Development (MOSD) issued a statement on Wednesday after
a video of a young girl selling juices in one of the governorates went viral.
The video showed the girl exhausted and fell asleep while selling juices on the side of the road. In a statement issued, MOSD explained that a representative from the child protection department visited the site and met the child’s father who is of Arab nationality. “We have taken the necessary action in this regard,” the Ministry said.
The Ministry also confirmed that the Chapter Seven in Article 45 of the Child Law stipulates that “it is prohibited to employ a minor in jobs and industries that, by their nature or by the circumstances in which they are engaged, are likely to harm his/her health, safety, or moral behavior.”
