MUSCAT: The Directorate General of Health Services in Muscat Governorate initiated a mosquito-fighting campaign in partnership with Muscat Municipality and other concerned agencies after the Aedes Aegypti mosquito resurfaced and instances of dengue disease were reported in Muscat Wilayat.

Field teams were organised to look into the Aedes Aegypti mosquito’s habitat, particularly the breeding grounds.

The DGHS-Muscat, in collaboration with the Muscat Municipality, also created and distributed a huge number of pamphlets throughout Muscat’s targeted villages, with the goal of educating and raising public awareness about the issue.

Furthermore, the DGHS’ Department of Disease Surveillance and Control has stepped up their efforts in the current period by sending experts to the insect’s breeding grounds and conducting inspections in some homes in Seeb, Bausher, and Al Amerat in collaboration with local governments, Walees offices, and other parties.

Furthermore, a two-day exhibition themed “Be the Change” was conducted at Muscat Mall with the goal of highlighting the risks of Aedes aegypti mosquitos and supporting the efforts made in this regard by forming a community partnership to eradicate these destructive insects.

Dr. Thamra Said Al-Ghafri, Muscat-Health Director General, issued an administrative decision to organise a working team in controlling the spread of the Aedes mosquito in Muscat Governorate to keep track of the campaign’s expedited events.

Specialists and officials from the DGHS, Muscat Municipality’s several public directorates, Haya Water, and Oman Environmental Services Holding Company – be’ah participated in the decision.

The team is in charge of following up on the investigation and control of Aedes Aegypti, as well as supervising the implementation of executive work in breeding habitats in collaboration with the relevant authorities in order to complete spraying operations and analyse the epidemiological status.

A meeting of the taskforce took place to discuss the epidemiological situation of dengue fever, as well as follow-up and control actions. The forum emphasised the significance of environmental cleanliness and mosquito-eradication programmes, such as solid waste disposal and clearing all forms of watersheds around buildings.

The seminar also emphasised the importance of carefully covering water tanks, removing used tyres, and removing all empty cans, containers, and utensils.
