ISWK to remain closed; issues statement after student commits suicide

In a statement issued soon after the incident, the school said it will remain closed on Sunday

MUSCAT: Indian School Wadi Kabir (ISWK) has issued a statement to the parents after Aashrita Blessy Gayans, a 16-year class 10 student studying in the school allegedly committed suicide on Saturday.

In a statement issued soon after the incident, the school said it will remain closed on Sunday, February 9, 2020, to observe one-day mourning.  

“It is with profound grief and heavy hearts, the ISWK & family would like to inform about the sudden and untimely demise, of our dearest student, Aashrita Blessy Gayans. We seek your prayers, as we stand together as one family, with the grieving parents of Aashrita, and pray to the Almighty to give them the strength to bear this irreversible loss,” the school said.

Upset over not scoring good marks in the Class 10th school exam, the student allegedly committed suicide by jumping from the balcony of her home. 

“We pray for the departed soul to reside in the heavenly abode and rest in eternal peace. All examinations/extra classes/practical etc., on 9th February stands cancelled and fresh dates will be intimated by the concerned class teachers through the Google classroom/SMS/mail to the parents. We request all our parents & learners to pray for the departed soul,” the school added.
