Class 10 Indian School student commits suicide in Muscat

UPDATE: Indian School Wadi Kabir will remain closed on Sunday, February 9, 2020 to observe one-day mourning.

MUSCAT: In a tragic incident, a class 10 Indian school student allegedly committed suicide on Saturday at her home, after she got less mark in one of her class examination, The Arabian Stories have learnt.

According to sources, Aashrita Blessy Gayans, a 16-year-old student from Indian School Wadi Kabir (ISWK) jumped from the balcony of her home.

“This is quite shocking and unfortunate. What we know so far is that the students allegedly committed suicide after she got less marks in one of her exams” a senior Indian Schools Board official informed The Arabian Stories.

Meanwhile, speaking to The Arabian Stories a senior official at the Royal Oman Police has confirmed the incident and said the body of the child has been transferred to the nearest hospital. “The body will be repatriated to India tomorrow,” the ROP official said.

In a statement issued to the parents by ISWK said: “It is with profound grief and heavy hearts, the ISWK & family would like to inform about the sudden and untimely demise, of our dearest student, Aashrita Blessy Gayans. We seek your prayers, as we stand together as one family, with the grieving parents of Aashrita, and pray to the Almighty to give them the strength to bear this irreversible loss.” 

ISWK to remain closed on Sunday
Meanwhile, ISWK will remain closed on Sunday, February 9, 2020 to observe one-day mourning.  “We pray for the departed soul to reside in the heavenly abode and rest in eternal peace. All examinations/extra classes/practicals etc., on 9th February stands cancelled and fresh dates will be intimated by the concerned class teachers through the Google classroom/SMS/mail to the parents. We request all our parents & learners to pray for the departed soul,” the school said.
