MUSCAT: National airline Oman Air said it is closely monitoring developments regarding the outbreak of the novel coronavirus that claimed the lives of 213 people in mainland China so far.

In a statement issued on Friday, Oman Air said it is in contact with Public Authority for Civil Aviation (PACA) and health organisations for advice and directives. “We are liaising with PACA, our airline regulator, and with health organisation,” the airline said.

Oman Air also asked passengers to get updates from its social media accounts.

Global health emergency
China marked its most fatal day yet during the Wuhan coronavirus outbreak Thursday as the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the virus a global health emergency.

Chinese authorities reported more than 40 deaths Thursday, all of them in Hubei, the province at the center of the outbreak of which Wuhan is the capital, bringing the total death toll to 213, with almost 10,000 cases confirmed worldwide.
