MUSCAT: As Oman is working towards boosting its tourism initiatives, the country is also looking to attract visitors from United States, Ukraine, Lithuania and Nepal, according to Maitha Al Mahrouqi, Undersecretary of Ministry of Tourism.
“There is an increasing number of tourists coming from US and we are looking to attract that market and at the same time we are also looking to have visitors coming from Nepal, Ukraine and Lithuania,” she said.
Oman welcomed more than 3 million tourists in 2018. Nearly 1.4 million of them comes from GCC countries. The number of hotels also grew by 12.3 percent in 2017-18, resulting in a 7.8 percent growth in the amount of rooms available in the country.

“We have also been involved in the tourism markets of Russia and Iran, which are known for being mega tourism exporting markets, in addition to the Arab GCC states and European countries, such as Britain, France, Germany and Italy,” Al Mahrouqi informed.
Oman is planning to welcome 11 million tourists by 2040 as part of its tourism strategy.
