MUSCAT: As the people in Oman mourn the loss of the Arab world’s longest-serving ruler, the international community has responded with an equal measure.

As a mark of respect, a 200-year-old mosque in South Indian state of Kerala has conducted a funeral prayer on Friday for the late His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said bin Taimur, who passed away on January 10, 2020.

Located in Thalassery in Kerala, the Odathil Palli built around 1806, held the Janazah (funeral) prayer for Sultan Qaboos, soon after the Friday prayer.

“The late Sultan Qaboos was well-respected by not just the people of Oman but across the globe.  Oman reached great heights under his benevolence. He single-handedly took the country to what it is today. During his long reign, Qaboos turned Oman into a modern, stable, and inclusive state,” said Mohammed Siraj, a resident of Thalassery.
