An expatriate family comprising of eight people including three children was swept away by strong waves in Al Mughsayl area in Dhofar.
The sailor was injured following a fire in the ship's engine.
The incident happened in Wadi Al Arbayin in Quriyat.
Out of the six, three children were rescued, two are in critical condition and one child died, the authority said.
