MUSCAT: The basic services sector, represented by the sector committee, has been monitoring the effects of the weather in the Sultanate of Oman from July 4 to 12.
The competent authorities concerned with risk management in all its sub-sectors have prepared to provide basic services in all sub-sectors including roads, electricity, communications, water and sewage, fuel and waste management as per the level of potential risks.
The basic services sector, in coordination with the National Center for Emergency Situations Management, has been following up on rain alerts issued in the Sultanate.

In the road sector, represented by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology and the governorate municipalities, all necessary measures have been taken to open and clean road lanes to facilitate traffic and the safety of road users.
Nama Group, providing electricity transmission and distribution services, have restored the disrupted services affected by the weather.
The telecommunications sector, represented by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority and the companies licensed in the sector, have been monitoring the telecommunications services and have taken the necessary measures.
The company licensed to provide water and sanitation services has also taken all necessary precautions to ensure the availability of services. Work is continuing to maintain some water lines that have been affected by the flow of valleys in some governorates.
In the fuel sector, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Investment Promotion and companies licensed to market fuel and gas have provided safe levels of fuel and cooking gas in all governorates.
Waste management is crucial especially when the current weather conditions have coincided with Eid Al-Adha. A specialised company has been working to ensure the continuity of service in order to preserve public health.
The efforts taken along with swift coordination on the status of services, support and attribution between the aforementioned authorities and the competent authorities in other sectors have achieved tangible results in terms of business continuity and managing potential risks in basic services in all governorates.
