Muscat – The plant, located in the area designated for fish and food industries, will be able to extract fatty acids present in fish (omega-3) and other oils intended for human use through the new processing unit.

Eng. Ahmed bin Ali Akaak, CEO of the Special Economic Zone at Duqm, said that the opening of the factory represents an added value for the fish and food industries in the region and uses the latest technologies in refining fish oil and producing oils for human uses.

Speaking on the occasion, Mohamed Bashir, owner of the factory, explained that the factory’s products come to meet the needs and requirements of the local market, while some are exported to regional and international markets. He pointed out that the $ 3 million factory crushes fish and delivers it to dry powder, used as feed or fertilizer at a rate of 25 percent, with 30 percent as fish oil.

He stressed that the factory would continue, through its former unit, to meet the needs of local and international markets for raw material that reaches China and India as a primary market, as well as Thailand and Malaysia, and that there is a study for expansion in the region.
