Expats workers arrested for smearing wild firewood in Oman

The expatriate workers smeared wild firewood for the purpose of producing packaged charcoal ready for distribution and sale in the markets.

MUSCAT: The Environment Agency’s branch in the South Al Batinah Governorate, in cooperation with the Royal Oman Police, was able to seize expatriate workers who smear wild firewood.

The authority explained in a tweet that the expatriate workers smeared wild firewood for the purpose of producing packaged charcoal ready for distribution and sale in the markets, in violation of environmental regulations and laws, stressing that legal procedures are being completed against them in addition to confiscating the seizures.

The regulation states the process of wood and charcoal issued by Ministerial Resolution No. 65/2017, the third article of the regulation stipulates that the following activities are prohibited except with a permit from the Ministry (formerly the Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs):

1- Al-Akhtab is state property

2 – Burning firewood

Paragraph (b) of Article (12) stipulates that “Anyone who violates the provisions of Article (3) of these regulations shall be punished with an administrative fine of no less than OMR 50, and not more than OMR 500 and the fine shall be doubled when repeating the violation.
