MUSCAT: Food wastage is a growing concern across the globe and especially during festivals and social events, the quantity of wastage is amplified.

Oman, just like any other country, saw a steeping increasing in food wastage during the joyous occasion of Eid Al Fitr.

Equipped to manage solid waste, Oman Environmental Services Holding Company (be’ah) said that from April 30 to May 5, roughly coinciding with the Eid holidays, the organisation had to step up its efforts in order to collect over 40,000 tonnes of municipal waste.

During the Eid holidays, be’ah confirmed that over 6,600 tonnes of garbage in the form of municipal solid waste was collected each day, which is a 30 percent increase compared to other days of the year.
