MUSCAT: The Indian Ministry of External Affairs has thanked the Sultanate of Oman for the release of seven Indian sailors who had been detained in Yemen since January 2.

These detainees were among the 14 foreigners released from the Yemeni capital, Sana’a, on Sunday.

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement published by the Indian daily, The Hindu, that the seven Indians arrived in Muscat on Sunday and are expected to return to India soon.

The report also added that the Government of India is happy about the release of the seven Indian sailors who were on board one of the ships before the Houthis in Yemen detained them.

“I have raised this issue in the UN Security Council before, and the government of India would like to thank all the parties concerned for the release of the Indian seafarers, especially the government of the Sultanate of Oman,” she said.
