MUSCAT: Muscat Governor has announced that daily parcel delivery services using drones have been launched in the governorate. He mentioned that the project aims to deliver parcels using unmanned aircraft in its first phase to some villages in the Wilayat of Muscat to achieve a number of goals and objectives.
He pointed out that the service was launched through the company (UVL Robotics), so that it can be used in the daily delivery of postal parcels and requests for goods, merchandise, food and others via drones, in cooperation with some local e-commerce companies and parcel delivery companies to integrate in providing this service.
The first phase will be to deliver parcels to the residents of the Muscat Bay residential complex and the tourist areas, and the subsequent phases will be through expansion to some areas of the Wilayat of Muscat, namely: Yeti, Yanket, Al Khiran and Al Sifah.

In a statement to His Excellency Mohammed bin Sulaiman Al Kindi, Deputy Governor of Muscat, he said: Currently, the delivery service of parcels via vehicles in the villages of the Governorate of Muscat far from the service centres suffers from challenges represented in the increase in the cost and time of delivery, which leads to the inability to benefit from e-commerce services and applications for service requests from restaurants and others.
His Excellency added, “The governorate seeks to exert its capabilities to support the service by providing the facilities required by the delivery service for parcels via drones, in cooperation with the relevant government institutions, as this service is in line with the directions of the Sultanate of Oman to benefit from the technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and to enhance the digital economy. It also coincides with the announcement of Muscat as the Arab Digital Capital for 2022, where the Sultanate’s candidacy file came under the slogan — A digital future that creates opportunities.”
