MUSCAT: At the conclusion of his visit to the Sultanate of Oman, His Excellency Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, gave a lecture in front of the National Defense College entitled “Regional and International Variables and Their Impact on Joint Arab Action.”

An official source in the General Secretariat of the League stated that the Secretary-General reviewed in his lecture the background of the formation of the current international system since the end of World War II and its main features that were formed over the past decades, with a focus on the impact of this system – and the conditions it entails – on the entire Arab region.

He explained that Abul-Gheit focused in his speech on the most important comprehensive issues that hit the world and the region, including, for example, climate change, terrorism and other issues that attract public international attention and require concerted international efforts and cooperation of all in confronting them.

The Secretary-General explained that the Arab region is witnessing, in this context, multiple challenges that the Arab countries must face and overcome through collective Arab action, which are challenges represented in some security issues and problems that Arab neighbouring countries issue to us in the first place, and confront conflicts, interactions and internal problems.

The Secretary-General is scheduled to travel on Tuesday from Muscat to Riyadh to chair the Higher Committee for Coordination of Joint Arab Action, on January 26.
