MUSCAT: As reported first by The Arabian Stories last month, the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology has officially confirmed that local cab service app OTaxi has been granted the licence to operate female taxi services in Oman.

On Thursday, the Ministry issued a statement confirming that OTaxi has been given the official nod. In the first stage, the service will be launched experimentally in the Muscat Governorate, starting from January 20, “the service will be expanded to other governorates later,” the Ministry added.

Earlier speaking at the TAS CEO Conclave organised by The Arabian Stories, Harith Al Maqbali, CEO and Founder of OTaxi, the local cab service app, had announced that his company obtained the licence to operate female taxi service. “We got the licence to operate female driver taxi for the first time in Oman. This is just the start. We realised there is a lot of potential services. Not only in taxi but in many areas such as transporting for ladies to schools, colleges or to move around or move in groups,” Al Maqbali said.
