Islamabad: System over Arabian Sea has strengthened to a deep depression and will become Cyclonic Storm Vayu Tuesday and a severe cyclonic storm at midweek, a global meteorologist has said.
The graphics shared by Jason Nicholls, Senior Meteorologist and International forecasting manager at AccuWeather, reveals that the cyclone will be heading to Pakistan and not to Oman.
Rains will brush W coast of India with best rains possible in Gujarat later Wednesday into Thursday. Could become a severe cyclonic storm before impacting Gujarat, India and perhaps SE Pakistan later Wednesday or Thursday.

According to the Indian government’s weather department, it now lays centered 760 km south-southwest of Mumbai and 930 km south-southwest of Veraval in Gujarat.
“It is very likely to intensify further into a deep depression by evening and into a cyclonic storm during the subsequent 24 hours and into a Severe Cyclonic Storm on 12 June, after which it is expected to move north-northwestwards,” stated Indian Meteorological Department in its latest update issued on Monday afternoon.
According to meteorologists, the northwesterly movement of the deep depression will strengthen the western arm of the monsoon current, bringing heavy rains in coastal Karnataka during the next three days. The department has already sounded a warning to the coastal areas on the western coast and advised fishermen to return to the coast.
“Fishermen are advised not to venture into the southeast Arabian Sea, Lakshadweep area along & off Kerala and Karnataka coasts on 10-11 June, east-central Arabian Sea along and off Maharashtra coast on 11 and 12 June and over northeast Arabian Sea and along and off Gujarat coast on 12 and 13 June,” as per IMD.
According to IMD, the cyclone is very likely to gain intensity around 13-14 June and cause an adverse impact in terms of wind and rainfall over Saurashtra and Kutch. Gale winds speed reaching 110-120 kmph gusting to 135 kmph are likely to prevail over the north Arabian Sea, south Gujarat and Maharashtra coast during the period.
