MUSCAT : The Dawoodi Bohra community in Oman today announced the winners of its Middle East region-wide painting competition to mark the occasion of World Oceans Day.

Themed around The Ocean: Life & Livelihoods, the competition saw the participation of over 40 students between ages 5-15. A panel of judges selected a winner in each of the three age groups A: 5-9 yrs, B: 9-12 yrs, C: 12-15 yrs

A spokesperson of the Dawoodi Bohra community, coordinating the competition in Muscat, said, “It is overwhelming to see so many children participate in this competition to express their imagination about oceans and their ecosystems through their paintings.”

With lockdown restrictions throughout the country, the competition was held online,” he added.

All the three winners of the competition will be felicitated.

One of the judges of the competition, expressed, “These environment-led competitions help in creating awareness among children at the grassroots level while also inspiring them to take action and realise their collective responsibility towards nature and its resources.”

The entire Middle East region-wide painting competition was held under the global philanthropic arm of the Dawoodi Bohra community – ‘Project Rise’. Every painting had a unique message highlighting the significance of the ocean and how it provides livelihood and support to other ecosystems on the planet.

The spokesperson continued, “As part of our community’s global Turning the Tide – Against Plastic Pollution campaign, which strives to eliminate single-use plastic and rid bodies of water of plastic pollution, the Dawoodi Bohra community in Muscat continues to educate members about reducing waste and leading a circular lifestyle.”
