MUSCAT: The list of basic food items exempted from the Value Added Tax (VAT) has been extended to 488 items from the 93 commodities set earlier, Oman News Agency reported.
The decision comes after His Majesty Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik on Thursday chaired the high-level finance committee as Oman gear-up to impose 5% VAT on April 16, 2021. The list of food commodities exempted from VAT will be announced soon.
According to the report, the government will also bear the cost of VAT imposed on the electricity and water services “for all citizens who own two accounts or less of the residential category, and this includes families that have been previously targeted with government support for the two services.”
