MUSCAT : The Muscat Maritime Resilience Forum opened in Oman on Tuesday, bringing together industry leaders and experts to explore ways to strengthen shipping networks and maintain the flow of global trade.

Hosted by Asyad Group, the two-day forum opened under the patronage of His Excellency Eng. Said bin Hamoud Al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology. Asyad Group Chief Executive Abdulrahman Al Hatmi delivered welcoming remarks.

The event is being held in partnership with Oman’s Foreign Ministry, the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, and the Oman Investment Authority. Participants include business executives, academics and maritime specialists from international companies and institutions.

Discussions will examine operational and commercial challenges across shipping, ports, logistics, technology and insurance, with private-sector leaders drawing on their experience to identify practical ways to improve supply chain continuity.

“Global trade is only as resilient as the maritime networks that sustain it,” Al Hatmi said in a statement issued ahead of the forum.

He said maintaining connections between markets required maritime networks to adapt to disruptions affecting cargo movements and supply chains, adding that stronger resilience depended on sustained cooperation across the industry.

Recommendations from the discussions will inform the development of the proposed Muscat Maritime Resilience Framework, intended to strengthen maritime networks and deepen international cooperation to protect trade flows.

The gathering also reflects Oman’s efforts to expand its role in international economic dialogue, drawing on its location along maritime trade routes and its ports, infrastructure and logistics services linking regional and global markets, Asyad said.
