MUSCAT: The landmarks — Jabrin Fort, Al Hazm Fort and Beit Al Khabib Fort — were included during the observatory’s 11th meeting, held in Cairo, Egypt, from October 25 to 27, 2026, according to the announcement provided by Oman’s Ministry of Heritage and Tourism.

The inclusion recognises the architectural and cultural significance of the sites and their contribution to the history of defensive and civil architecture in Oman. It also supports broader Arab cooperation in documenting, conserving and maintaining the authenticity of historic buildings and urban heritage for future generations.

The three sites reflect traditional construction techniques, architectural planning and design shaped by Oman’s local environment and historical, social and cultural development.

The registration is also expected to raise the regional profile of Omani architectural heritage and support the exchange of expertise in heritage documentation, management and conservation.

The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism has been working to inventory, document and preserve historic landmarks across the Sultanate, while promoting their cultural value through regional and international heritage initiatives.

The ministry continues to pursue cooperation with Arab and international organisations involved in cultural heritage protection, with the aim of safeguarding historic sites and supporting sustainable cultural tourism.
