MUSCAT: Oman’s Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) has fined two commercial establishments in Muscat Governorate for misleading promotions.

In a statement issued, CPA without naming the commercial establishments said both violated the Consumer Protection Law. “The Consumer Protection Authority, represented by the Anti-Commercial Fraud Department, has recently imposed administrative fines on commercial establishments in the Governorate of Muscat for violating the Consumer Protection Law. The imposition of these fines comes in light of the Authority’s continuous efforts to monitor the market by organising inspection visits to the establishments,” CPA said.

According to CPA, the two commercial establishments were found advertising promotions that turned out to be misleading. “The first establishment intended to write false advertising copy that attracted consumers to a number of electronic goods, while the other one misled consumers in its promotions for clothing,” CPA noted.

“It was decided to punish the first establishment with an administrative fine of OMR 300 and the second one with an administrative fine of OMR100,” CPA added.
