Oman sees highest daily toll of 11 deaths as COVID-19 cases surge

MUSCAT: A further 11 people have died in Oman within 24 hours due to COVID-19 — the highest figure reported in a single day since the last four months.

In just six days, 22 people have died fighting the Covid-19 battle in various parts of the country, the latest data provided by the Ministry of Health showed. Last year, on November 16, the country reported 12 deaths in a single day, the highest figure since the start of the pandemic. The total deaths touched 1,644 on Wednesday.

The number of patients being treated for the disease also rose to 373 of which 116 are in intensive care. A sharp increase in the Covid-19 cases in the last two weeks has put an unprecedented strain on the country’s health system. On Wednesday, 741 new cases were registered, taking the total figure to 153,105.
