MUSCAT: Oman’s Ministry of Labour has imposed a ban on hiring expats in certain professions in commercial malls.

In a statement issued, the Ministry said sales, accounting, cashier, and management professions in commercial and consumer malls will be restricted to Omanis only. The Ministry has also restricted the Merchandise arrangement professions in stores for Omanis. The decision comes into force from July 20, 2021.

“The Ministry of Labour notes to the owners of commercial and consumer malls the need to adhere to Ministerial Resolution No. 8/2021, which will be implemented from July 20, 2021,” the statement from Ministry of Labour said.

“Accordingly, the Ministry requests the necessity to comply with the implementation of the aforementioned decision, as licenses to practice work for workers in these professions will not be renewed after their expiry.” the statement added.
