MUSCAT: As Oman prepare to receive the first batch of Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine for COVID-19 on December 23, authorities are setting the vaccination centres across the country.

“We will be announcing these vaccination centres in the coming days,” said Badr bin Saif Al Rawahi, Director of the Department of Infectious Diseases Control at the Ministry of Health.

According to Al Rawahi, the target is to vaccinate 60% of the total population. “But as a first step, we will cover 20% of the target group due to the limited supply of the vaccine,” he noted.

In the first stage, the target groups include most vulnerable to contracting the virus, which include frontline workers, people with chronic diseases and elderly.
