MUSCAT: Oman will receive the first batch of COVID-19 vaccines on December 23, a top Ministry of Health official has informed.

This comes after Oman issued licence to import vaccines made by Pfizer/BioNTech for emergency use in the Sultanate. The vaccine will be allocated to the age group 16 years and above and requires two doses administered three weeks apart.

Badr bin Saif Al Rawahi, Director of the Department of Infectious Diseases Control at the Ministry of Health said the strategy is to cover at least 60% of the total population. “The first batch of vaccines will arrive on Wednesday and as informed earlier we will be utilising it as per a proper strategy,” he said.
