NIZWA — Oman inaugurated Nizwa Public Park in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate on Monday, a RO 2.57 million development intended to expand public recreation facilities and create opportunities for private businesses, Oman News Agency reported.

The park, which covers 150,000 square metres, has received more than 1.3 million visitors since trial operations began in April. Facilities were assessed and improvements introduced during that period ahead of the formal opening.

Sheikh Hilal bin Said Al Hajri, Governor of Al Dakhiliyah, presided over the ceremony and toured the park’s recreational, sporting, cultural, service and investment facilities. The tour also included an exhibition featuring entrepreneurs and home-based producers.

The park contains more than 40 facilities, including green spaces, restaurants, cafés, retail outlets, and sports and recreation amenities. The project offers 15 investment opportunities valued at more than RO 718,000 and creates 50 jobs, the agency said.

Al Hajri said the opening marked a new stage in putting the governorate’s development projects into public use, providing integrated facilities for citizens and residents and improving quality of life.

He said the governorate would prioritise the sustainability and operating efficiency of its projects, monitor service quality and use visitors’ feedback to improve public facilities.

The approach would support social and economic benefits while expanding opportunities for entrepreneurs and private companies to participate in managing and operating the facilities, he added.

The ceremony also marked the launch of Al Dakhiliyah’s unified sonic identity, drawing on the governorate’s traditional performing arts and cultural heritage for use across official platforms and events.

Al Hajri said the initiative formed part of efforts to modernise institutional communications through a contemporary musical and media presentation reflecting the governorate’s cultural character.

The composition incorporates rhythms and melodies from traditional arts, including Al Razha, Al Azi and Al Kaidha, as well as the Toumina tradition and chants associated with celebrations marking the completion of memorising the Quran.

An accompanying audiovisual presentation showcased the governorate’s mountains, villages, farms and historic landmarks.

The opening programme also featured performances and activities highlighting the park’s services and attractions for residents and visitors.
