MUSCAT: The Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between Oman and India came into effect on June 1, 2026, following its ratification through Royal Decree No. 30/2026, issued on February 15, 2026, according to Oman Customs.
The CEPA seeks to increase the volume of Omani-Indian exports and imports while expanding the range of goods and services exchanged between the two markets. It also provides preferential trade benefits and customs provisions intended to simplify procedures and support smoother movement of goods through customs ports.
Oman Customs said the agreement comes at a time of rapid changes in global trade and supply chains and represents a strategic step in the Sultanate’s efforts to strengthen economic integration, expand access to international markets and enhance its regional and global competitiveness.
A key objective of the agreement is to reduce or eliminate customs duties on eligible products, helping lower trade costs and improve market access. It also seeks to address non-tariff barriers by streamlining regulatory requirements, simplifying procedures and improving transparency in trade processes.
The agreement is expected to strengthen the competitiveness of Omani exports by providing preferential access to the Indian market, while helping create new opportunities for businesses and productive sectors in both countries.
Oman also aims to leverage the agreement to reinforce its position as a strategic regional trade hub, providing access to markets across the Gulf Cooperation Council, Africa and Central Asia.
Beyond trade facilitation, the CEPA forms part of Oman’s broader economic diversification strategy and supports the objectives of Oman Vision 2040 by encouraging investment, economic growth and the development of productive sectors.
The agreement is also expected to contribute to sustainable economic development by creating new economic opportunities, supporting job creation and helping improve living standards.
