MUSCAT: Following the strong response to its inaugural edition, The Arabian Stories (TAS) Interschool Badminton Tournament is set to return for its second edition on October 9 and 10, 2026, at Kosmos Badminton Academy in Wadi Kabir.

Officially sanctioned by the Omani Racket Sports Committee (ORSC), the two-day tournament will be organised by Morning Star Badminton Club, which will oversee the technical and operational aspects of the competition in accordance with applicable badminton regulations and standards.

The inaugural TAS Interschool Badminton Tournament drew an encouraging response from schools, students, parents and teachers across Oman, attracting around 250 young players and nearly 1,000 spectators.

Indian School Al Ghubra emerged as the champions of the inaugural edition, becoming the first school to lift the TAS Interschool Badminton Tournament rolling trophy. The trophy will return to competition this year as schools from across Oman vie for the title.

Building on the success of the first edition and growing interest from schools and parents, TAS is expanding the tournament this year to provide a larger competitive platform for young badminton players.

The interschool competition is designed to give students the opportunity to play in a professionally managed tournament environment, helping them gain valuable match exposure, build confidence and develop competitive experience.

A major addition to the second edition will be the Open All-Oman Badminton Tournament, which will be staged alongside the interschool competition. The open tournament is expected to attract established and experienced players from across the Sultanate, bringing together different levels of the badminton community under one platform.

With the two competitions being held concurrently, overall participation is expected to reach around 500 players, nearly doubling the scale of the inaugural edition.

The expanded format will also give young players an opportunity to watch experienced senior players compete at close quarters, while offering families and spectators a wider range of competitive badminton throughout the two-day event.

Morning Star Badminton Club, an experienced badminton technical team in Oman, will manage the competition and ensure the tournament is conducted professionally in line with applicable BWF standards and ORSC regulations.

Beyond competition, the TAS Interschool Badminton Tournament aims to strengthen badminton at the grassroots level by creating opportunities for young talent, encouraging greater participation in the sport and bringing together schools, families, players and the wider badminton community in Oman.

With the return of the interschool championship and the introduction of the Open All-Oman competition, the second edition is set to be bigger, more competitive and more inclusive, building on the foundation established by last year’s successful debut.
