MUSCAT: Indian schools in Oman have extended online classes for students from Kindergarten to Grade II for another week, as concerns over extreme summer temperatures continue.
In a circular issued to parents on Saturday, August 8, Indian School Muscat said it had received instructions from the Board of Directors, Indian Schools Oman, to continue conducting classes online for KG to Grade II students from Sunday, August 9 to Thursday, August 13, 2026.
The extension follows an earlier decision by the Board to move the youngest students to online learning from August 2 to 6 amid prevailing weather conditions and concerns over children travelling to and from schools during the peak summer heat.

According to the latest circular shared by Indian School Muscat, KG students will attend online classes from 8.15am to 11am. Grade I and Grade II students in the morning shift will have classes from 8am to 12.30pm, while those in the afternoon shift will attend from 1.30pm to 5.15pm.
The school said timetables and Google Meet links will be shared through respective class teachers, while parents have been asked to ensure students attend classes regularly and log in on time. Students have also been instructed to access online classes using their school email IDs.
The latest move effectively extends the online learning arrangement for the youngest students into a second consecutive week.
The Arabian Stories (TAS) had reported on August 1 that Indian schools across Oman were moving KG to Grade II classes online for a week after a directive from the Board of Directors. The measure came as temperatures in several parts of Oman climbed above 45°C, intensifying concerns about the safety and wellbeing of young children.
TAS had also earlier highlighted growing concerns among parents over Indian schools reopening during the peak summer period, with parents questioning the exposure of young students to extreme temperatures while travelling to and from school. That coverage prompted widespread discussion online.
The initial online arrangement was due to end on August 6, with normal classroom instruction expected to resume unless further directions were issued. The latest instruction from the Board now keeps KG to Grade II students online until August 13.
