MUSCAT – The observation was the highest among the top nine downdraft wind gusts recorded across various locations in the country during the period, according to Oman Meteorology data.
Other significant wind gust readings included 52.9 knots in Samail, 47 knots in Muqshin, 46.6 knots in Rustaq, 45.1 knots in Nakhal, 44.8 knots in Mahdah, 44.4 knots in Al Mazyona, 42.7 knots at Jebel Shams, and 39.1 knots in Fahud.
Downdraft winds are powerful air currents that descend from beneath thunderstorms and spread horizontally when they reach the ground. These winds can generate dust storms, reduce visibility and cause loose objects to become airborne, posing potential hazards to people and property.
