MUSCAT : Oman and the Netherlands have underlined the importance of ensuring the security and freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz amid ongoing diplomatic efforts to safeguard regional stability and global trade routes.
During a phone call on Wednesday, His Excellency Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Foreign Minister of Oman, and Dutch Foreign Minister Tom Berendsen discussed regional and international developments, with particular focus on efforts to support the uninterrupted flow of maritime traffic through the strategic waterway.
The two ministers stressed the need for practical measures to guarantee safe navigation for all vessels, protect the movement of global trade and energy shipments, and uphold international law. They also highlighted the importance of cooperation, peaceful coexistence and good neighbourly relations among Gulf countries to strengthen regional security.

The discussion comes as the Strait of Hormuz remains a critical artery for global energy supplies, carrying a significant share of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas exports.
The ministers also reviewed bilateral ties and explored opportunities to expand economic cooperation between Oman and the Netherlands in sectors including energy, transport, supply chains and related industries.
