MUSCAT : The authority said passengers are not entitled to compensation if flight delays or cancellations result from extraordinary situations outside the airline’s control.
These include fuel shortages or supply disruptions, wars or security disturbances, sabotage or unlawful acts, bird strike incidents, strikes, airport or airspace closures, adverse weather conditions or natural disasters, as well as certain manufacturing defects or sudden technical failures.
The Civil Aviation Authority said the clarification aims to enhance awareness of passenger rights and obligations, and to ensure a clear understanding of situations in which airlines are exempt from compensation requirements under the regulations.
