MUSCAT: The ROP urged the public to exercise caution and verify the identity of anyone claiming to represent the police or government agencies.
Scammers are reportedly exploiting video calling platforms to pose as trusted officials, including police officers and government employees, to solicit personal or financial information. In some cases, they threaten victims with fabricated legal actions to pressure compliance.
The ROP pointed out that protecting personal information is a shared responsibility and advised public to confirm any requests through official channels before responding.
