MUSCAT : Employees in Oman’s public sector are required to strictly adhere to confidentiality principles as part of professional conduct regulations aimed at safeguarding official information and institutional integrity, according to guidance shared by Oman Legal Network.

The advisory highlights that government staff must uphold the highest standards of secrecy regarding all work-related data, documents and internal dealings, both during and after their tenure. It stresses that access to sensitive information should be limited strictly to what is necessary for job responsibilities.

Officials are prohibited from exploiting any documents, data or knowledge obtained through their roles for personal benefit or for the advantage of others. The guidance also warns against sharing or leaking information to unauthorised parties, including through media or social media platforms, without prior written approval from the relevant authority.

Employees are further required to ensure the protection of official documents and to avoid any actions that could lead to their loss, damage or misuse. Upon completion of service, all documents and materials—whether physical or digital—must be returned to the concerned entity.
