MUSCAT — India’s Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Friday announced an alternative assessment scheme for Class XII students across several West Asian countries, including Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Iran, following disruptions to the ongoing board examinations.
The move comes after multiple examination papers in the region were either postponed or cancelled due to prevailing conditions, prompting the Board to adopt a revised evaluation framework to ensure continuity in assessments.

Under the new scheme, students who have already appeared for their examinations will have their results calculated based on their actual performance in those papers.
For subjects where examinations could not be conducted, CBSE said final results will be determined through a combination of internal assessments, practical marks and available theory components.
In subjects carrying 70 or 80 marks for theory — including Mathematics, English, History and Biology — schools have been directed to submit marks from three internal assessments: the quarterly exam, half-yearly exam and pre-board exam.
“The highest score obtained by the student among these three examinations will be considered for computation of final results,” the Board said in its circular.
CBSE added that the alternative assessment mechanism is aimed at ensuring fairness and maintaining academic standards for students across affiliated schools in the affected regions.
Detailed guidelines on implementation have been shared with schools and stakeholders, the Board said.
