MUSCAT — Imports included 27,718 heads of cattle and 258,172 sheep and goats, alongside local production and shipments of chilled and frozen meat, the ministry said. The move reflects increased demand in the run-up to the festive season.
Statistical data showed a significant rise compared with the same period last year: sheep and goat imports increased from 141,008 heads in January 2025 to 156,419 heads in January 2026, while cattle imports rose from 7,725 to 11,098 heads.
The ministry affirmed its commitment to ensuring steady supplies by coordinating with livestock importers, simplifying import procedures, and expediting quarantine processes. During the period, 239 livestock import permits were approved to maintain market stability and meet consumer needs across Oman’s governorates.
Officials said ongoing monitoring of market movements and cooperation with the private sector ensures the sustainability of food supplies throughout the Sultanate.
