MUSCAT – The Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) announced that the court issued seven judicial rulings against the commercial establishment, ordering the closure of the shop and imposing fines totalling RO 10,000 for violations of the Consumer Protection Law No. 66/2014.
According to the authority, the rulings were issued in favour of several consumers who had filed complaints after the establishment failed to fulfil contractual obligations to manufacture and install doors and windows within the agreed timeframe.
The cases originated when the Directorate General of Consumer Protection in North Al Batinah Governorate received complaints from customers who said they had contracted the company to carry out fabrication and installation works within a specified period. However, the establishment repeatedly delayed the work and failed to complete the agreed services, prompting the consumers to lodge formal complaints.
Following the complaints, specialists at the directorate carried out the necessary legal procedures before referring the case files to the Public Prosecution in Saham, which conducted investigations and subsequently referred the cases to the competent court.
The court found the establishment guilty of violating Article 23 of the Consumer Protection Law, which obliges suppliers to provide services properly in line with their nature and to guarantee them for an appropriate period. The law requires suppliers, in the event of a breach, to refund the service value, compensate for deficiencies, or properly perform the service again.
The court also convicted the establishment under Article 24 for failing to issue invoices in Arabic, which requires suppliers to provide consumers with a clear and legible invoice documenting the purchase of goods or receipt of services, including essential details specified by regulations.
As part of the rulings, the court ordered the termination of the contracts and the refund of RO 2,540 to the affected consumers, in addition to imposing fines totalling RO 10,000, suspending the establishment’s commercial activity, and closing the shop.
