Indian School Muscat hosts German educators and students in cultural exchange programme

The January 2026 visit marks the latest phase of a growing academic partnership aimed at fostering global learning, cross-cultural dialogue, and educational cooperation.

MUSCAT : In keeping with the commitment to promoting cultural exchange and academic collaboration between Indian School Muscat and Freies Gymnasium, Germany, an eleven-member team comprising German educators and students visited Indian School Muscat, Oman, from 20th January to 28th January 2026. Designed to broaden students’ educational experiences beyond national boundaries, the exchange programme aims to enhance academic and professional skills and encourage mutual respect among young people from different backgrounds. In June 2025, a team of students and teachers from ISM undertook an educational visit to Germany, followed by the German team’s recent reciprocal visit in January 2026.

During their visit, the guests actively participated in various school activities. They witnessed the enthusiasm and sportsmanship of students on School Sports Day. The team also had the opportunity to observe the Republic Day celebrations, gaining insight into India’s rich democratic traditions and patriotic spirit.

The group attended several classroom sessions, experiencing the diverse curriculum offered by the school. They observed lessons in Sanskrit, French and Arts, appreciating the multilingual and multicultural learning environment. These interactions encouraged meaningful academic discussions and the exchange of teaching practices. A warm get-together with host families provided the visitors with a chance to experience Indian and Omani hospitality and culture, strengthening personal bonds and cross-cultural understanding.

The scholastic community also explored some of the most prominent attractions in Oman, including visits to popular tourist destinations Muttrah Souk, Corniche, Sultan’s Palace, Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, Muscat Nightsand various shopping malls giving them a glimpse of the country’s modern lifestyle blended with traditional charm. Wahiba Sands, Nakhal Fort, Bandar Al Khairan, Al Hoota Caves, Sink Hole, Quriyat Dam and Flamingo Lake became standout destinations, leaving visitors impressed by their stunning landscapes and cultural allure.

The visit also provided the German guests with an opportunity to interact with Mr. Himanshu Gupta, IAS, Secretary, CBSE, and other CBSE officials. The exchange programme concluded with the departure of the group on the night of 28th January 2026, marking the successful completion of a memorable and enriching experience. The tour strengthened international ties and laid the foundation for continued cooperation in the field of education.

ISM is gearing up for the next phase of the exchange with a new scholastic team in June 2026 and eagerly awaits the German delegation’s visit in January 2027. The school eagerly anticipates continuing this enriching tradition of learning beyond borders.
