MUSCAT – According to the details, the Authority received a complaint from a consumer who had purchased a new vehicle from a car dealership in the governorate. Four days after taking delivery of the vehicle, a warning message appeared while driving uphill, prompting the consumer to return the vehicle to the dealership. However, the dealership refused to refund the amount paid or replace the vehicle.
Consequently, the consumer filed a complaint with the CPA’s department, which initiated the necessary procedures. After reviewing the complaint and communicating with both parties, an amicable settlement was reached.
The settlement stipulated the rescission of the sales contract, with the dealership refunding a total amount of RO 14,900. This amount included RO 14,700 as the value of the vehicle and OMR 200 covering expert fees.
The Consumer Protection Authority emphasised the importance of all service providers adhering to the laws and regulations in force related to consumer protection, and fulfilling the obligations imposed upon them, in order to ensure the protection of consumers’ rights when providing goods or services.
