MUSCAT – The decision is based on the Veterinary Quarantine Law issued by Royal Decree No. 45/2004, its executive regulations, and recommendations from the competent veterinary authorities, in line with public interest considerations.
Under the decision, the import of live birds, as well as their products, derivatives, and by-products from Kerala is prohibited until the reasons for the ban cease and a new decision is issued. The ban does not apply to products that have been heat-treated or processed in accordance with the Terrestrial Animal Health Code issued by the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).
The Ministry stated that all relevant authorities are required to implement the decision within their respective areas of jurisdiction. The decision will be published in the Official Gazette and will come into force the day following its publication.
