MUSCAT : His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik has directed Oman’s Council of Ministers to carry out a comprehensive study and assessment of behavioural changes within society and to develop clear, well-governed policies aimed at reinforcing social values and positive conduct, state media reported.

During a cabinet meeting chaired by His Majesty at Al Alam Palace in Muscat, he called for the adoption of effective working mechanisms and governance frameworks that strengthen community values, encourage positive behaviours and address the negative impacts of social media platforms on societal conduct.

State media reported that the Sultan highlighted the need to protect all segments of society in light of the potentially harmful effects of rapid technological advancements and modern communication platforms. He noted that the contemporary social environment has revealed a range of negative phenomena, particularly among some youth groups.

These include weakening social relationships, a decline in the influence of positive role models and a reduction in constructive communication between generations, according to the report.

His Majesty the Sultan stressed that addressing these challenges requires coordinated policy responses, clear institutional responsibilities and well-structured governance mechanisms to ensure that technological progress does not undermine social stability or shared values.
