MUSCAT : The partnership was further strengthened with the signing of four Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) covering cooperation in maritime heritage and museums, scientific research and innovation, skills development and agriculture, and a strategic industrial and trade collaboration between the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Confederation of Indian Industry.

Prime Minister Modi arrived in Muscat as part of the final leg of his three-nation tour across Jordan, Ethiopia and Oman, aimed at deepening diplomatic and economic ties. He was warmly received by Oman’s Deputy Prime Minister upon arrival, highlighting the longstanding friendship between the two nations.

During the visit, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation beyond traditional sectors. The Joint Maritime Vision aims to strengthen collaboration in critical maritime domains, reflecting the historical and strategic linkages that span centuries across the Indian Ocean. The agricultural programme places special emphasis on millet cultivation, food innovation, and sustainable agricultural practices, a key priority in bolstering food security and rural development.

In addition to the bilateral culture, research, and skills development accords, the industrial MoU between business chambers is expected to unlock new avenues for trade and investment, particularly in technology, manufacturing and agri-business sectors.

PM Modi’s visit also comes at a pivotal moment as India and Oman prepare to sign a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), including a free trade pact that was cleared by India’s Cabinet ahead of the trip, signaling deeper economic integration and future cooperation across multiple sectors.
